Road Running Group

Victoria Park’s Road Runners meet at 7pm every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening within the reception at Scotstoun Stadium.

Everyone is welcome to come along for a few weeks to join in with the sessions before deciding if it’s the right club for you.

All you need to get started is a good pair of running shoes, a desire to run faster or just get a bit fitter.  Either way, you’ll be made very welcome by our coaches and jog leaders.

The cost of our annual membership is £25.  There are no additional training fees.

You don’t need to join Scottish Athletics to train with or compete for Victoria Park.  However, being a member of Scottish Athletics gives you a £2 discount at any event with a SA permit (nearly all road races in Scotland) and other benefits.  If you are a member of a running club, the membership fee for Scottish Athletics is halved.  If you think you might be racing more than half a dozen times per year, the membership will pay for itself.

For Beginners

You don’t have to be a runner before you come along.  If you’re not running already, you might want to look at some of the many “get you started” training regimes on the net that will help you off of the couch and onto the road.  There’s absolutely nothing wrong with starting off with a run/walk plan where you run and walk in turns.  Until you’ve built up some basic fitness, it’s far more important to slowly increase the distance that you’re running each week than the speed.

Our coaches and jog leaders are expecting runners of all abilities and will be prepared to put an exercise plan in place to help you get from couch to 5k in 10 weeks.  We hope that beginners will take part in our local Park Run to record their progress.

For more information about our Couch to 5K program, you should follow this link.

Our next block of C25K begins on Thursday the 9th of May at 7pm.  We'll meet everyone within the reception at Scotstoun Stadium.

Training Sessions

We meet within the reception at Scotstoun Stadium (there’s a sign in book) before we warm up within the South West corner of the facility.  It’s always followed with some gentle stretching before we divide into groups of similar ability.

We’ll have fast runners leaving the stadium to do a longer route and we’ll have slower runners missing out on additional loops.  The plan will be to have everyone warming up together, leaving the stadium together and arriving back for a cool down at the same time.

If you’re not sure we’re the right group for you, why not come along and meet everyone in person.  Then take a few weeks to think about it.  When you’ve made your mind up, we’ll be expecting you.
