Road Running Update

With road running season now in full swing the club’s endurance runners have been competing at various distances from 5k to marathon in the last few weeks. Listed below are a number of the notable performances. Apologies if I have missed anyone.

Gerry Craig completed the Edinburgh marathon on 27th May in a time of 2 hours 58 minutes 44 seconds finishing in 155th place. Two weeks later he followed it up with 10th place in the Strathearn marathon in 3 hours 8 minutes and 10 seconds.

On 13th May, Gerry Craig was 17th in the Monklands half marathon in 84 minutes 20 seconds. Michael Craig finished 20th just over a minute behind Gerry and was 3rd in the Vet 50 age category. Abbey McGhee ran 87:46 in Salzburg, Austria on 6th May.

In the Dumbarton 10k on 17th May, Becky Dunphy was our best placed athlete in a time of 39:26 just ahead of Peter Jardine who was 8th Vet 50 in a time of 39:51. Peter finished 7th Vet 50 in the Kirkintilloch 10k in a time of 40:17 on the 14th June and the next evening Becky was 11th female in the Brian Goodwin Memorial 10k race at Pollok Park in a time of 39:53. Tom Ord was 3rd Vet 60 in a time of 43:49 at the Cambuslang Down By The River 10k on 20th May. Claire Thompson was 1st Vet 40 female in the Babcock Shettleston10k on 27th May in a time of 39:57 and Diane Ramsey’s time was 48:43. In the Scottish Women’s 10k on 10th June, Claire Thomson was 6th however Claire would have placed higher if she had not been sent in the wrong direction at the 8k point when running in 3rd place therefore adding an extra 600m to her distance!

Gerry Craig claimed 1st place in the 14.5 mile Glen Lyon race in a time of 1 hour 48 minutes and 47 seconds.

The Scottish 5K Championships were held at Crammond, Edinburgh on 4th May Our fastest athlete on the night was Max Milarvie in 15:45. Peter Jardine ran 19:02 and Claire Thompson was 19:03.

The last few weeks have seen VP-Glasgow athletes running at various parkrun locations. Pollok Park (Ralph Connolly), South Shields (Tom Ord) Ruchill (Sandy Gardner and Paul Lennie) where Paul Lennie finished 3rd, Drumchapel (Robert Daly), Springburn where Louis Sharp ran a PB of 18:52, Strathclyde (Tom Ord) Victoria where Finlay Waters ran a PB of 18:28 leaving Louis Sharp, Paul Lennie and myself all trailing in his wake and Pegwell Bay where Rhian Dawes was 1st Female finisher in 19:21.
