Volunteers Wanted

Can you help? - Victoria Park Athletic Club is run by dedicated volunteers. The club would not exist or provide the service to athletes from the community we serve without the support of our volunteers.

 We're constantly recruiting and training coaches to support our athletes on each of our four training evenings. There is no minimum commitment required and you don't need to have a background in athletics in particular or sport in general. We welcome all volunteers and full training will be provided by the club.

If you would like to be involved in coaching at any level, please contact  Gordon Innes (Secretary).

Template Typography

All HTML headings, <h1> through <h6> are available.

Built with Less

The typographic scale is based on two LESS variables in variables.less: @baseFontSize and @baseLineHeight. The first is the base font-size used throughout and the second is the base line-height. We use those variables and some simple math to create the margins, paddings, and line-heights of all our type and more. Customize them and Bootstrap adapts.

Body copy

Bootstrap's global default font-size is 14px, with a line-height of 1.7em. This is applied to the <body> and all paragraphs. In addition, <p> (paragraphs) receive a bottom margin of half their line-height (9px by default).

Nullam quis risus eget urna mollis ornare vel eu leo. Cum sociis natoque penatibus et magnis dis parturient montes, nascetur ridiculus mus. Nullam id dolor id nibh ultricies vehicula.

Lead body copy

Make a paragraph stand out by adding .lead.

Vivamus sagittis lacus vel augue laoreet rutrum faucibus dolor auctor. Duis mollis, est non commodo luctus.

<p class="lead">...</p>

Make use of HTML's default emphasis tags with lightweight styles.

For emphasizing a snippet of text with stress

The following snippet of text is rendered as italicized text.

<em>rendered as italicized text</em>

For emphasizing a snippet of text with important

The following snippet of text is rendered as bold text.

<strong>rendered as bold text</strong>

For de-emphasizing inline or blocks of text, use the small tag.

This line of text is meant to be treated as fine print.

  <small>This line of text is meant to be treated as fine print.</small>

Note: Feel free to use <b> and <i> in HTML5. <b> is meant to highlight words or phrases without conveying additional importance while <i> is mostly for voice, technical terms, etc.

Notice Styles

Use the <p> tag with .success, .warning, .info or .error classes.

  <label>Label name</label>
  <input type="text" placeholder="Type something…">
  <span class="help-block">Example block-level help text here.</span>
  <label class="checkbox">
    <input type="checkbox"> Check me out
  <button type="submit" class="btn">Submit</button>

Optional layouts

Included with Bootstrap are three optional form layouts for common use cases.

Search form

Add .form-search to the form and .search-query to the <input> for an extra-rounded text input.

<form class="form-search">
  <input type="text" class="input-medium search-query">
  <button type="submit" class="btn">Search</button>

Inline form

Add .form-inline for left-aligned labels and inline-block controls for a compact layout.

<form class="form-inline">
  <input type="text" class="input-small" placeholder="Email">
  <input type="password" class="input-small" placeholder="Password">
  <label class="checkbox">
    <input type="checkbox"> Remember me
  <button type="submit" class="btn">Sign in</button>

Horizontal form

Right align labels and float them to the left to make them appear on the same line as controls. Requires the most markup changes from a default form:

  • Add .form-horizontal to the form
  • Wrap labels and controls in .control-group
  • Add .control-label to the label
  • Wrap any associated controls in .controls for proper alignment
<form class="form-horizontal">
  <div class="control-group">
    <label class="control-label" for="inputEmail">Email</label>
    <div class="controls">
      <input type="text" id="inputEmail" placeholder="Email">
  <div class="control-group">
    <label class="control-label" for="inputPassword">Password</label>
    <div class="controls">
      <input type="password" id="inputPassword" placeholder="Password">

    <div class="controls">
      <label class="checkbox">
        <input type="checkbox"> Remember me
      <button type="submit" class="btn">Sign in</button>

Supported form controls

Examples of standard form controls supported in an example form layout.

Most common form control, text-based input fields. Includes support for all HTML5 types: text, password, datetime, datetime-local, date, month, time, week, number, email, url, search, tel, and color.

Requires the use of a specified type at all times.

<input type="text" placeholder="Text input">

Form control which supports multiple lines of text. Change row attribute as necessary.

<textarea rows="3"></textarea>

Checkboxes and radios

Checkboxes are for selecting one or several options in a list while radios are for selecting one option from many.

Default (stacked)

<label class="checkbox">
  <input type="checkbox" value="">
  Option one is this and that—be sure to include why it's great

<label class="radio">
  <input type="radio" name="optionsRadios" id="optionsRadios1" value="option1" checked>

<label class="radio">
  <input type="radio" name="optionsRadios" id="optionsRadios2" value="option2">
  Option two can be something else and selecting it will deselect option one

Inline checkboxes

Add the .inline class to a series of checkboxes or radios for controls appear on the same line.

<label class="checkbox inline">
  <input type="checkbox" id="inlineCheckbox1" value="option1"> 1
<label class="checkbox inline">
  <input type="checkbox" id="inlineCheckbox2" value="option2"> 2
<label class="checkbox inline">
  <input type="checkbox" id="inlineCheckbox3" value="option3"> 3

Use the default option or specify a multiple="multiple" to show multiple options at once.

<select multiple="multiple">

Extending form controls

Adding on top of existing browser controls, Bootstrap includes other useful form components.

Prepended and appended inputs

Add text or buttons before or after any text-based input. Do note that select elements are not supported here.

Default options

Wrap an .add-on and an input with one of two classes to prepend or append text to an input.

<div class="input-prepend">
  <span class="add-on">@</span><input class="span2" id="prependedInput" size="16" type="text" placeholder="Username">
<div class="input-append">
  <input class="span2" id="appendedInput" size="16" type="text"><span class="add-on">.00</span>

Search form

<form class="form-search">
  <div class="input-append">
    <input type="text" class="span2 search-query">
    <button type="submit" class="btn">Search</button>
  <div class="input-prepend">
    <button type="submit" class="btn">Search</button>
    <input type="text" class="span2 search-query">

Use both classes and two instances of .add-on to prepend and append an input.

$ .00
<div class="input-prepend input-append">
  <span class="add-on">$</span><input class="span2" id="appendedPrependedInput" size="16" type="text"><span class="add-on">.00</span>

Buttons instead of text

Instead of a <span> with text, use a .btn to attach a button (or two) to an input.

<div class="input-append">
  <input class="span2" id="appendedInputButton" size="16" type="text"><button class="btn" type="button">Go!</button>

<div class="input-append">
  <input class="span2" id="appendedInputButtons" size="16" type="text"><button class="btn" type="button">Search</button><button class="btn" type="button">Options</button>

Form actions

End a form with a group of actions (buttons). When placed within a .form-horizontal, the buttons will automatically indent to line up with the form controls.

<div class="form-actions">
  <button type="submit" class="btn btn-primary">Save changes</button>
  <button type="button" class="btn">Cancel</button>

Help text

Inline and block level support for help text that appears around form controls.

Inline help

Inline help text
<input type="text"><span class="help-inline">Inline help text</span>

Block help

A longer block of help text that breaks onto a new line and may extend beyond one line.
<input type="text"><span class="help-block">A longer block of help text that breaks onto a new line and may extend beyond one line.</span>

Control sizing

Use relative sizing classes like .input-large or match your inputs to the grid column sizes using .span* classes.

Relative sizing

<input class="input-mini" type="text" placeholder=".input-mini">
<input class="input-small" type="text" placeholder=".input-small">
<input class="input-medium" type="text" placeholder=".input-medium">
<input class="input-large" type="text" placeholder=".input-large">
<input class="input-xlarge" type="text" placeholder=".input-xlarge">
<input class="input-xxlarge" type="text" placeholder=".input-xxlarge">

Note: In future versions, we'll be altering the use of these relative input classes to match our button sizes. For example, .input-large will increase the padding and font-size of an input.

Uneditable inputs

Present data in a form that's not editable without using actual form markup.

Some value here
<span class="input-xlarge uneditable-input">Some value here</span>

Form control states

Provide feedback to users or visitors with basic feedback states on form controls and labels.

Input focus

We remove the default outline styles on some form controls and apply a box-shadow in its place for :focus.

<input class="input-xlarge" id="focusedInput" type="text" value="This is focused...">

Disabled inputs

Add the disabled attribute on an input to prevent user input and trigger a slightly different look.

<input class="input-xlarge" id="disabledInput" type="text" placeholder="Disabled input here..." disabled>

Validation states

Bootstrap includes validation styles for error, warning, and success messages. To use, add the appropriate class to the surrounding .control-group.

Something may have gone wrong
Please correct the error
Username is taken
<div class="control-group warning">
  <label class="control-label" for="inputWarning">Input with warning</label>
  <div class="controls">
    <input type="text" id="inputWarning">
    <span class="help-inline">Something may have gone wrong</span>
<div class="control-group error">
  <label class="control-label" for="inputError">Input with error</label>
  <div class="controls">
    <input type="text" id="inputError">
    <span class="help-inline">Please correct the error</span>
<div class="control-group info">
  <label class="control-label" for="inputError">Input with info</label>
  <div class="controls">
    <input type="text" id="inputError">
    <span class="help-inline">Username is taken</span>
<div class="control-group success">
  <label class="control-label" for="inputSuccess">Input with success</label>
  <div class="controls">
    <input type="text" id="inputSuccess">
    <span class="help-inline">Woohoo!</span>

Default buttons

Button styles can be applied to anything with the .btn class applied. However, typically you'll want to apply these to only <a> and <button> elements for the best rendering.

Button class="" Description
btn Standard gray button with gradient
btn btn-primary Provides extra visual weight and identifies the primary action in a set of buttons
btn btn-info Used as an alternative to the default styles
btn btn-success Indicates a successful or positive action
btn btn-warning Indicates caution should be taken with this action
btn btn-danger Indicates a dangerous or potentially negative action
btn btn-inverse Alternate dark gray button, not tied to a semantic action or use
btn btn-link Deemphasize a button by making it look like a link while maintaining button behavior

Cross browser compatibility

IE9 doesn't crop background gradients on rounded corners, so we remove it. Related, IE9 jankifies disabled button elements, rendering text gray with a nasty text-shadow that we cannot fix.

Button sizes

Fancy larger or smaller buttons? Add .btn-large, .btn-small, or .btn-mini for additional sizes.

  <button class="btn btn-large btn-primary" type="button">Large button</button>
  <button class="btn btn-large" type="button">Large button</button>
  <button class="btn btn-primary" type="button">Default button</button>
  <button class="btn" type="button">Default button</button>
  <button class="btn btn-small btn-primary" type="button">Small button</button>
  <button class="btn btn-small" type="button">Small button</button>
  <button class="btn btn-mini btn-primary" type="button">Mini button</button>
  <button class="btn btn-mini" type="button">Mini button</button>

Create block level buttons—those that span the full width of a parent— by adding .btn-block.

<button class="btn btn-large btn-block btn-primary" type="button">Block level button</button>
<button class="btn btn-large btn-block" type="button">Block level button</button>

Disabled state

Make buttons look unclickable by fading them back 50%.

Anchor element

Add the .disabled class to <a> buttons.

Primary link Link

<a href="#" class="btn btn-large btn-primary disabled">Primary link</a>
<a href="#" class="btn btn-large disabled">Link</a>

Note: We use .disabled as a utility class here, similar to the common .active class, so no prefix is required.

Button element

Add the disabled attribute to <button> buttons.

<button type="button" class="btn btn-large btn-primary disabled" disabled="disabled">Primary button</button>
<button type="button" class="btn btn-large" disabled>Button</button>

One class, multiple tags

Use the .btn class on an <a>, <button>, or <input> element.

<a class="btn" href="">Link</a>
<button class="btn" type="submit">Button</button>
<input class="btn" type="button" value="Input">
<input class="btn" type="submit" value="Submit">

As a best practice, try to match the element for your context to ensure matching cross-browser rendering. If you have an input, use an <input type="submit"> for your button.

Matthew Hamilton I was wondering if there is a sprinters group as I am keen to join the club. I have competed at a reasonably high level representing Ulster Schools u18 for 100 200m and 4x100m relay. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Hopefully see you soon.

Gordon Innes New Road Running Group Victoria Park are preparing to setup a new Road Running section primarily for senior athletes and we're hoping to recruit heavily from our members parents. The group will be based at Scotstoun and will be open to all levels of ability. Whether you’re starting out in running for fitness or health or wanting to improve your 10k time, we’re hoping to give you all the help and support you need to meet your targets. We hope to recruit jog leaders, coaches and runners. The club will pay for any coaching courses that are required. We hope to recruit most of the group from within the large number of parents and existing senior members currently training at other venues. At this point in time we’re looking for volunteers who would like to get involved. Once we’ve got the names of a few interested parties, we’ll be arranging a meeting to discus which nights we’ll train, what routes we’ll run, how many will need to be trained as jog leaders or coaches and how much we’ll charge for membership. The jog leaders, like the runners will have to be of mixed ability. We wouldn’t expect an elite athlete to set the pace for a beginner and that’s why we need volunteers with varying levels of fitness and experience. The management at Scotstoun have agreed to let the group assemble, leave belongings and warmup within the confines of the stadium without charge. Anyone who would like to be involved should express their interest in an email to Please state if you’re primarily interested in being a jog leader (one day course) or if you just want to enjoy the running. Suzanne Gilmour There is a handful of athletes who are not on the start lists for VP as your SA membership is not up to date. You will be contacted by your team manager if this is the case as we received an email this morning with your names. So if you don’t see your name and you said you wanted to run please get in touch with your team manager and Scottish athletics. Thanks. 15 Feb 2018 - 15:25
Susannah Stewart Hi! I’ve just checked the start list and Orla stewart isn’t down in the under 13 category. Her SA membership is definitely up to date. Could you let me know if she has been entered? Julie McDevitt Barnett had checked about her date of birth and said she was ok to be put forward for u13. Thanks. Susannah 16 Feb 2018 - 00:19 Caroline Wright Hi unfortunately she is too young this year and still an under 11 for cross country...We would have loved to have her in the team and look forward to her doing it next year... 16 Feb 2018 - 00:55

I won't take anything for them 02 Feb 2018 - 08:47 Alastair Dugless That would be good if you had and v kind of you. Could we laise through email 02 Feb 2018 - 15:35 Mickey Wright No worries 02 Feb 2018 - 15:36 Linda Innes Hi Alastair. We keep a stock of “previously loved” spikes in a box in our equipment store. They’re not locked away so you could have a look and help yourself. 02 Feb 2018 - 16:38 Alastair Dugless Is that at Scotstoun? 02 Feb 2018 - 17:20 Linda Innes Yes, in the equipment store (2nd last door on Left hand side near top end of track). They’re in a large box on shelf. 02 Feb 2018 - 17:33 Alastair Dugless I know it sounds a bit mean but my 11 year old son’s feet are rapidly growing and he is running Glas Schools xc. It is possible that he will only use them once and a new pair for a once only seems extreme. As I said I don’t mind paying for second hand. 02 Feb 2018 - 17:53 Mickey Wright Ive got about 3 pairs of 9 and a couple 8.5. Let me know if u still want them. Illl be there mon tues and thurs this coming week. 02 Feb 2018 - 17:58 Alastair Dugless Mickey. I will come down Tuesday if that is ok with you. Thanks 02 Feb 2018 - 23:52 Mickey Wright No worries. I'll bring them all and u can have whatever one the bairn likes best 03 Feb 2018 - 00:12 Alastair Dugless Mickey would 7.30 be ok to turn up tonight at Scotstoun? Alastair 06 Feb 2018 - 17:51 Mickey Wright Yea the missus will be there. She will get u in reception area m8 06 Feb 2018 - 17:54 Alastair Dugless Thanks 06 Feb 2018 - 17:55 Alastair Dugless Actually might be closer to 8. Is that still ok? 06 Feb 2018 - 19:04 Mickey Wright I'm not there but will let her know lol 06 Feb 2018 - 19:06
Alastair Dugless Mickey perfect fit. Many thanks Alastair 07 Feb 2018 - 13:27 Mickey Wright No worries. Happy to have helped 07 Feb 2018 - 13:32
Clare Campbell So at the moment we are predicting the two bends at the north stand will be closed due to the “big freeze” from 6 onwards! We will salt straights but as you can see the water on them from being salted today it might freeze back up! Fingers crossed! Still have infield and indoors available

Suzanne Gilmour This is just a reminder to all senior and master women that the deadline for letting me know if you wish to race at the Scottish cross country champs is Monday.
